Marianna Municipal Airport Fly-in
On Saturday May 18th the Marianna Airport will commemorate Armed Forces Day by hosting a Fly-in. A mix collection of vintage military and civilian aircraft showcase their wings on the airport tarmac. A variety of 6 war birds ranging from a 1936 Lockheed-12 the aircraft used to film the movie Amelia, two AT-6s, two CJ-6, a Russian YAK-52TD, one of only two in the U.S., and an AT-11, three helicopters, and civilian aircraft. The Young Eagles organization offer free flights to high school age aviation enthusiasts. Pre registration is required. Opening ceremony begins at 9 am, with a fly by performed by The Red Dragons Aerial Demonstration Team. During World War II the airport was called Graham Air Base, an Air Force training base used to train pilots for combat in the AT-6 aircraft.
The local remote control airplane club, Chipola R/C aviators demonstration show follows the Red Dragons demonstration team.
Friday night, May 17th, FAA safety seminar is scheduled from 6 pm-9 pm at Citizens Lodge. Transportation and a pizza dinner is provided for participating pilots. Saturday morning a pancake and sausage breakfast will be served for particpating pilots. Three level of prizes will be awarded at 2 pm, must be present to win. Florida Caverns Golf Course
(Public, 9 holes, $11.00 - $9.00) This course features small, elevated greens. The terrain is rolling, so you can expect some interesting lies in the fairways. The course is located next to a state park, so squirrels and deer are common scenery. The green fees shown (subject to change) are good for all-day play. Walking the course is allowed on weekdays and during designated hours on weekends.
